Marmaris

Marmaris is a coastal city in the Muğla Province in the southwestern part of Turkey. It has approximately 31,000 inhabitants (2002) and is dominated by tourism.
History
The town’s name means Four hanged architects. This name comes from the origins of her formative castle. The then Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent commanded 1522, after his victory over Rhodes, his four architects, to build a castle, which is itself still in Rhodes could see. The result was a relatively small castle, the sultan was so angry that he had executed the architects. The year of emergence is unclear, however, the place was already in the 6th Century BC mentioned in writing. Marmaris was then called Physkos and was part of Caria. Surroundings
Marmaris is located on the Turkish Aegean on the Bozburun Peninsula. In the surrounding area are more beds castles, such as Bodrum and Fethiye. 8 miles west of Marmaris is Icmeler. Tourism
