Buyukada
The largest of the Prince Islands, also the farthest from Istanbul welcomes its visitors with a very enjoyable atmosphere, with its historical per, large bazaar square and famous fish restaurants. On the right hand side road extending to the Anadotu Club facilities, there are tea gardens and a fishermen’s shelter. The road lined with beerhouses, fried mussel restaurants, leads to the bazaar.
The 202 meters high Yiicetepe, the highest point of the island, accessed * within 20 minutes walking distance on a high hill, is popularly known as the”Ay a Yorgi Hill”. The Ay a Yorgi Monastery and Church is visited every year on 23 April and 24 September by a large number of foreign and local tourists.
According to Christian belief, the people who climb to the Aya Yorgi by foot are considered “half pilgrims”. Possessing a magnificent view, the Sedef Island and the coast of Istanbul may be enjoyed almost from a bird’s eye view from the Aya Yorgi Hill.
